Steady Enough to Begin

For the thing you have been putting off. Not fearless — just steady.

Begin

Read the script slowly, in your own time — or record it in your voice and it will play here.

The script

01Sit up a little taller than feels natural. Let the breath come all the way down into the belly.

02There is something you have been carrying at the edge of your mind. A conversation. A decision. A door you have not knocked on. Bring it here, gently. We will not solve it. We will only stand next to it.

03Notice where it lives in your body. The throat, perhaps. The chest. The stomach. Put a hand there if it helps.

04Do not try to make the fear leave. Courage has never meant the absence of fear. It means being steady enough to begin while the fear is still speaking.

05Breathe into that place. On each out-breath, let the grip loosen by one percent. Not all of it. One percent is enough for today.

06Now picture the very first small step — not the outcome, the first step. Sending the message. Opening the file. Saying the first sentence. See yourself doing only that.

07Say inside: I do not have to be fearless. I only have to be steady.

08Feel your feet on the ground. Feel how much of you is already holding firm — the spine, the bones, the breath that has never once abandoned you.

09Three slow breaths, and each one makes the first step a little more ordinary.

10When you open your eyes, the thing will still be there. So will you. And you are steady enough to begin.
